BJP-Sena spat in Aurangabad: BJP seeks action against Sena Corporator
Sunday, June 20, 2010 11:07:31 AM, ummid.com & Agencies
Aurangabad: The BJP-Sena spat in Aurangabad following the 'winning' of BJP Corporator Raju Shinde as Standing Committee Chairman in Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) took ugly shape when Sena Corporator 'manhandled' district BJP Chief.
According to the reports coming in the media, the BJP strongly demanded stern action against Sena corporator Digvijay Sherkhane, who allegedly attacked district BJP chief Basvaraj Magrule yesterday at Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) premises.
Addressing a news conference here, the party state vice-president Haribhau Bagade told reporters that the party tried to get Raju Shinde's resignation, but he asked for two-days time.
''Even this morning, we tried to tender his resignation, but he avoided us,'' he said. Bagde announced to take stern action against him, including his expulsion from the party.
Earlier, the relationship between Saffron allies - Shiv Sena and BJP - strained further after BJP corporator Raju Shinde, who won the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) standing committee chairman polls on Congress support, refused to resign from the post in violation of the whip issued by party high command.
A high tension drama was seen in the Standing Committee meeting of the civic body for about an hour, when the eight Sena members assaulted the BJP district chief. A Sena corporator received serious injuries and was admitted to hospital in an alleged police action. A case has been lodged against eight following a complaint by AMC security officers.
Election of BJP corporator Raju Shinde on June 2 as the AMC standing committee chairman on Congress support increased bitterness in the alliance. Despite the pressure mounted by the Sena and a whip issued by the BJP high command three days back, Mr Shinde did not resign from the post and called the standing committee meeting. He sanctioned various proposals including Rs 138.07 crore privatisation of Octroi, that annoyed the Sena members who vandalised the House.
The party leader and former legislator Shrikant Joshi demanded stern action against Sena district chief Ambadas Danve, who allegedly ordered his corporator Sherkhane to assault BJP district chief.
''Until and unless the party will not take action against culprits, we will not initiate any step. Sena should apologise for today's incident,'' he said.
