Bhopal:
Prof. Iqtedar Ahmad Sidiqui Afsar’s “Na’ats”, the poetic praise of
Prophet of Islam Hazrat Muhammad, (PBUH), collection, which have
been compiled into a book form, titled “Naghmaat-e-Firdaus” was
released by the chief guest Bhopal Shahar Qazi Maulana Abdul Lateef
Khan Qasmi here in Sajjad hall at Saifia Science college premises.
The programme was presided over by
Zainuddin Shah, secretary Saifia Education Society. Prof. Abdul Qavi
Desnavi, Prof. Afaq Ahmad were special guests on the occasion.
Litterateurs Abrar Naghmi (Raisen);
Dr. Iqbal Arif, Professor of Physics in Saifia Science College; poet
Zafar Naseemi; Dr. Mohammad Nauman Khan, Reader in the Department of
Languages, NCERT, New Delhi and Dr. Mukhtar Shameem, a retired
Principal, read papers on the life and works of Prof. Afsar while
analyzing his present literary collection.
The papers of Dr. Iqbal and Dr. Nauman
were much appreciated by the august gathering as it left indelible
impressions on their minds.
Dr. Nauman, a relative of Prof. Afsar
and his colleague during student days, wrote an interesting piece.
He highlighted the anecdotes in college life as a student in a
humorous manner when Prof. Afsar was busy, despite being a man of
science stream, in his pursuit of scaling literary heights with a
romantic flavour. The audience burst into peals of laughter, while
Prof. Afsar also did not lag behind to enjoy the occasion, as Dr.
Nauman in his inimitable style unfolded step by step the highs and
lows of different stages through which Prof. Afsar passed through
while establishing himself professionally in two fields
simultaneously viz. Science and Arts. Prof. Afsar’s personality has
been a complete picture of perfect amalgam between science and art,
Dr. Nauman opined.
Armed with poetic taste and having a
sharp memory, as Prof. Afsar had memorized the whole of Holy Quran
to have the prefix of Hafiz title with his name, he participated in
“Baintbazi” in his hey days of college student life with all vigour
and vitality to cast a spell on the fairer sex. Maintaining a
He-figure by frequenting gyms the youthful romanticism in Prof.
Afsar started to flourish and he struck a romantic chord with a
beautiful lass, a classmate of his in post-graduate studies, wherein
both were bowled over by each other’s attributes. However,
cupid-struck professor’s inexperience in matter of romance in the
world of reality, despite his romantic flight in the poetic world of
fantasy, became a stumbling block to let fructify this love affair
into matrimony. This brought crashing down to ground his dream and
ambition to adorn the role of a hero in the film world too, the
aspiration which he had kindled once and kept close to his heart,
Dr. Nauman revealed.
Dr. Nauman said Prof. Afsar, however,
as the years passed by developed religious temperament and diverted
his energies and God-gifted literary capabilities in writing “Hamd”
(praises of Allah Almighty) and “Na’ats” wherein he excelled with
the passage of time. Stepping out of the materialistic world and
entering into the spiritual and being a Hafiz, he sharpened his
intellect and it became a tool in hand in his literary pursuits with
much finesse. He directed his passionate love from mortal to
immortal entity. This became the turning point of his life and he
continues to have the best of both world, the present and preparing
for the Hereafter.
Bhopal Shahar Qazi Maulana Abdul
Lateef while speaking on the occasion applauded Prof. Afsar for his
well-written “Na’ats”.
However, he took exception to the fact
that Prof. Afsar while writing “Manqabat” (praise of Sahaba, Hazrat
Muhammad’s companions) he wrote about Hazrat Ali (RA) only while his
pen remained silent on three other Sahaba namely Hazrat Abubacker
Siddique (RA), Hazrat Umar Farooque (RA) and Hazrat Usman Ghani
(RA). This is not at all fair. He advised him to write “Manqabat”
about three other Sahaba also to do justice to them as they were
senior to Hazrat Ali (RA) in Khilafat too.
Before the programme came to
conclusion Prof. Afsar in his unique style and sweet voice rendered
one of his “Hamd”, one “Na’at” and one “Manqabat” which drew
thundering applause and the audience lapped it all.
It may be mentioned here that Prof.
Afsar, who is also general secretary Bazm-e-Iqbal, is a Professor of
Physics in local Saifia Science College. He has M. Sc. M. Ed degrees
along with holds certificates in Aalim-e-Deenyat, Mahir-e-Deenyat
and Fazil-e-Deenyat from the world famous Islamic seminary Dar-ul-Uloom,
Deoband. Together with being a Hafiz of Quran he is also a Qari.
Nayab Qazi Maulana Syed Mushtaq Ali,
Prof. Saeed Akhtar, Adv. Khaleelullah Khan, Principal of Saifia
College Dr. Hasan Abbas, veteran journalist LS Herdenia and other
elites of the town graced the function. Iqbal Masood, Asstt.
Secretary in Madhya Pradesh Urdu Academy, conducted the programme
with aplomb.
