Chandigarh: Elections to six municipal corporations in Punjab will be held Feb 22, a senior state election official said Friday.
State Election Commissioner Shivinder Singh Brar said that elections will be held to the six Municipal Corporations of Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Phagwara, Moga, SAS Nagar (Mohali) and Bathinda.
Over 7.91 lakh voters are eligible exercise their franchise in the elections, he said.
The model code of conduct will come into effect from Feb 7, he said.
The Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alliance government has been in power in the state since 2007. The main opposition party in the state is the Congress.
