Nandurbar (Maharashtra): Police has imposed curfew in parts of Nandurbar, the tribal district in North Maharashtra, some 90 kms from here, after clashes between two groups of different communities erupted Wednesday.

Reports coming from the city said there were arson, looting and heavy stone pelting in the violence hit areas after th clashes following the protest by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), Bajrang Dal and othre Hinudtva outfits despite prohibitory orders.
The worst affected areas of the city are Maliwada, Bagban Galli, Chirag Galli, Shahdatullah Nagar and Fish market. Violent mob pelted stone, looted and burnt properties belonging to the Muslim community.
It is also alleged that the rioters had free run for over two hours. Police came into action only after properties worth lakhs were destroyed, burnt and looted.
"There has been stone pelting between two groups in Nandurbar. The situation is under control now," Additional D G Law and Order K L Bishnoi said.
According to local media persons, the town was tense following the protest by the alleged activists of VHP and Bajrang Dal against slaughter house.
"The VHP and Bajrang Dal were demanding closure of slaughter houses from the administration and had given the ultimatum till Wednesday. Following this the district administration had imposed prohibitory orders.
"However, the alleged activists of the VHP and Bajrang Dal today tried to forcibly close down the slaughter house. This resulted in clashes between the two groups", a local reporter said while talking to ummid.com.
Nandurbar had witnessed communal clashes in September 2011 when a tussle between police and members of a local Ganesh Mandal turned into a communal violence killing one person.
There has been simmering tension in North Maharashtra with an increase in communal conflagration between the two communities. Last month a riot had broken out in Pachora in adjoining district of Jalgaon.
