Akola:
Muslims of riot hit Aakot - the Maharashtra town 45 kms from here,
could not go to Eidgah to offer special Eid prayers as the local
administration refused to relax the curfew that continued for the
fourth consecutive day.
The Muslims could not complete other
Eid rituals including animal sacrifice though they offered the Eid
prayers at their homes due to curfew.
"Curfew was imposed in the town on
Wednesday, October 24, at 10 a.m. But there has not been any
relaxation since then. Not even for Eid prayers", Amanullah Khan,
a social activist and trustee of a local mosque said while talking
to ummid.com on phone.
"We offered Eid prayers at our homes but
could not sacrifice our animals - a compulsory ritual on Eid ul
Azha", he added.
Aakot, a Taluka place with a
population of around one lakh people, witnessed communal clashes
on October 23 in the evening. Four people had been reportedly
killed in the violence. Widespread arson and looting were also
reported in the aftermath.
However, there has not been any
report of fresh violence or clashes and the situation in the town
is by and large peaceful, said Khan.
Earlier, curfew was also not relaxed
for Dessehra celebrations on Wednesday in the evening.
