New Delhi:
A local RTI activist Thursday asked Maharashtra Director General of
Police Sanjive Dayal what action he had taken against the police
officers who ordered and arrested the Palghar girls for
questioning Mumbai shutdown by posting comments on Facebook.
"What action has been taken against
the delinquent police officers who ordered and made illegal
arrests of Ms. Shaheen Dhada and Ms. Renu Srinivasan of Palghar in
Thane district in connection with their post on facebook", RTI
activist Abdul Hafiz Gandhi asked in his application filed on
November 22 under RTI Act 2005.
He further asked: Whether the police
has filed FIR against the delinquent police officers involved in
the illegal arrests of the two girls under Section 341 and 342 of
Indian Penal Code, 1860 for wrongful arrest and wrongful
confinement or not? If yes, please provide me the certified copy.
If no, why FIR is not filed against the officers responsible for
the illegal arrests? Give reasons."
Gandhi also asked in his application
the names of the police officers who ordered and arrested the
young women.
Thane rural police had on Sunday,
November 18 arrested Shaheen Dadha for questioning the shutdown in
the city after Thackeray's death Saturday, and the subsequent
shutdown the day after for his funeral and cremation.
Another girl in Dadha's friends' list, who 'liked' the comment,
was also arrested.
The arrest had invited sharp
reactions from the entire country and outside with Justice (rtd)
Katju writing to the Maharashtra Chief Minister and asking him to
take immediate action.
Following the outrage, Sanjeev Dayal,
Maharashtra Director General of Police, ordered a probe. However,
the findings of the probe which was expected Wednesday are yet to
be made public.
