Aligarh:
A special meeting of the AMU Court, the supreme governing body of
the
Aligarh Muslim University, today recommended a panel of three names
to the President of
India in her capacity as Visitor of the University for the next
Vice Chancellor.
The meeting of the Court recommended Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Zameeruddin
Shah, Dr. Noor
Mohammad, IAS (Retd.), Former Secretary, National Disaster
Management Authority,
Government of India and Dr. Syed Khalid Rizvi, IPS (Retd.), Former
Director General of
Police, UP.
The meeting was presided over by the former Vice Chancellor of
Aligarh Muslim
University, Mr. Mahmoodur Rahman. 118 members of the University Court attended the
meeting.
Naseem Ahmad, former AMU Vice Chancellor was the
Chief Election Officer to
conduct the election.
While
Lt. Gen. Zameeruddin Shah secured 97 votes, Dr. Noor Mohammad 85
and Dr. Syed Khalid
Rizvi 83 votes, S. M. Ashraf, Income Tax Commissioner and
A. A. Siddiqui, former
DGP, Punjab secured 49 and 31 votes respectively.
Earlier, the Executive Council of the University drew a panel of
five names to the
University Court.
Lt. Gen. Zameeruddin Shah, born on August 15, 1948 at Meerut was
an alumnus of St.
Joseph’s College, Nainital. He did his M. Sc. in Defence Studies
and Management from the
Madras University in 1980 and M. Phil. from the Indore University
in 1993. He served as
Chairman, of the Board of Governors of Sainik School, Purulia,
West Bengal and Chairman
of the management Committee of the Army Institute of Management, Kolkata.
Lt. Gen. Shah is a recipient of the highest peace time award of
Param Vishisht Seva
Medal, Sena Medal and Vishisht Seva Medal for distinguished
services in the army.
Dr. Noor Mohammad retired from the Indian Administrative Services
on July 31, 2011. He
held important positions like Secretary, National Disaster Management Authority and
Member Secretary, NCR Planning Board.
Dr. Noor Mohammad is an alumnus of Aligarh Muslim University and
did his B. Sc. (Hons.)
Physics and M. Sc. (Physics) and got gold medal in both the undergraduate and
postgraduate examinations. He did his Ph.D. in Economics from Lucknow University. He
devoted his career to providing responsive and transparent
governance that empowers
civil society and eradicates administrative malpractices such as
corruption and nepotism.
Dr. Syed Khalid Rizvi, IPS (Retd.) did his B. Tech. (IIT Kanpur)
in 1970, M.Sc. (Sociology, 2006) and Ph.D. (Sociology, Criminology, 2009) from Lucknow University.
Dr. Rizvi has a vast experience of more than 35 years of top level
governmental
administration. After retiring as Director General of Police on
November 30, 2008, he
joined Everest University online, a part of Florida Metropolitan
University, USA as a
Professor of Criminal Justice. He is also Member Board, Council
for American Islamic
Relations, Arizona and Member, Advisory Council, Criminal Justice
department, Kalpan’s
College, Phoenix, Arizona, USA.
