New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Tuesday told a Delhi court hearing a case against Congress leader Sajjan Kumar related to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots that his acquittal in other riots cases was due to failure of the police to produce witnesses in court.

Appearing for CBI, senior advocate R.S. Cheema told District Judge-cum-Additional Sessions Judge J.R. Aryan that in the trial of five other separate 1984 riot cases, the Delhi Police had not produced any eyewitness.

He added that the police officers were examined in those cases.

The court listed further hearing on the final arguments in the case for April 9.

The court is hearing the final arguments in a case against Sajjan Kumar and the other five accused of inciting mobs against the Sikh community during the riots that broke out after the assassination of then prime minister Indira Gandhi Oct 31, 1984.
