Malegaon:
“Sir, like girls in other parts of the country, we also wish to
seek higher education. But, since we don’t have any such
opportunity here in Malegaon our dreams may shatter. In AMU’s
sub-centre, we see our dream of higher education coming true.
Hence, we request you to take an early and positive decision on
our proposal so that the AMU centre in Malegaon becomes a
reality”, hundreds of students – mostly the girls, had written to
the AMU VC Prof PK Abdul Azis in September.
This moving appeal was followed by
the strong support and cooperation extended to the AMU VC by Nasik
MP Samir Bhujbal. The result is that the AMU team led by Prof PK
Abdul Azis and comprising deans of five faculties are visiting the
district today.
The AMU team's visit to the town has
also excited the district administrative officers led by District
Magistrate P Velrasu, who is extending all supports for the
establishment of the AMU sub centre in the region.
However, the biggest question is, will the AMU team really
initiate the much needed change long due for the region?
“Prima-facie we have a very strong case. Moreover, if we go by the
motive with which the AMU is establishing its centres in five
states, Malegaon is the best deserving place in Maharashtra. We
have a fact-sheet to back this claim”, Bhujbal said hoping that
the AMU team would surely decide in his favour.
The motive behind the establishment of the AMU sub center
according to the VC is to provide opportunities to the deprived
and marginalized sections of the society in remote areas to help
them catch up with the lost avenues.
But, in the present scenario, it seems that Bhujbal will need a
bit more to fight and prove his point. For, after a consistent
effort of three years when everything looked all right and in
favor of Malegaon, suddenly people from other areas too have
started demanding to establish the centre in their areas.
“For the last three years, no district except Nasik responded to
the state government’s repeated pleas to provide the land for the
purpose. Now, when Malegaon successfully done the complete paper
work, entire Maharashtra is ready to offer lands”, wondered Razee
Anwer, Gen Secretary of Noble Education & Welfare Society (NEWS).
The AMU on its part is keeping everyone guessing. Rumours mill
also began rolling when amid the euphoria in Malegaon, the AMU
decided on the request of Minister of State for Primary Education
Mrs. Fauzia Khan to inspect simultaneously with Malegaon two
locations near Aurangabad to see if they are better options.
This sudden change of mind sent
shock ways for the people in Nasik district. Against this
backdrop, it would be interesting to see how they convince the AMU
team. Till then we can only pray that this Diwali brings the
historic moment Malegaon is waiting for since last more than sixty
years.
