Malegaon: A 23-year-old Palestinian man was shot dead, and another seriously wounded after searching for a job in Burkan colony, north of the West Bank, reports Gulf News correspondent Nasouh Nazzal from Ramallah.

The wounded man managed to escape with a third man. The trio had been travelling together.

The victim, Bilal Abu Lebdah, was shot dead and his body was taken to Abu Kbeer Morgue in Israel.

His family said they had been waiting for a permit from the Israeli authorities so they could go to the morgue to check their son’s body, and take it away to be buried.

However, by the time this report was prepared, the permit had not yet been granted, they said.

Israeli authorities said when they searched the victim’s body, they recovered 100 Sheikels from his pockets but no ID card.

The victim, who had been married only a few days earlier, had gone to the colony to look for a job to make a living for his family. The man was partly responsible for financially supporting his parents, brothers and sisters.

The victim went to the colony with his two friends as it was not the first time the labourers had worked there.

Abu Lebdah’s parents, who have been waited patiently to be able to receive the young man’s body, said their son had been shot dead by a coloniser, not the Israeli forces. The family confirmed that the two other labourers managed to escape, after one of them was seriously injured.

Israeli forces searched nearby towns and cities in search of the pair, but by the time this report was prepared the Israeli forces said they had not apprehended the men.

Family members said they had no idea what exactly had happened to their son or why he was shot dead, but the death itself has been confirmed.

The Israeli authorities said the three Palestinians were armed, and had approached and attacked the colony. The Israelis said the man opened fire, which the Israelis returned, shooting one dead, injuring another, with a third escaping.

The family said the men only ever went to the colony to find work, not take part in conflict.
