New Delhi: India is witnessing a considerable drop of trust in television news channels, newspapers and social media, the IANS-CVoter survey revealed on Sunday.
According to IANS-CVoter Tracker conducted across the country, the number of people who trusted the news showcased on these three platforms plummeted drastically in comparison to 2018.
In 2018, 44 per cent of people had a lot of trust in television, which has now dropped down to 42.3 per cent.
The nett trust factor for TV channels came down from 35.9 per cent to 32.2 at the national level.
Similarly, two years ago, 41.8 per cent Indians trusted newspapers, but now the percentage stands at 34.5. The nett trust factor came down by 5.5 per cent.
Meanwhile, merely 12.5 per cent people have faith in information which is circulated through social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook.
This dramatic change in trust is visible across all geographies, income and education levels as well as caste and ethnic identities.
According to the survey, only those living in western part of the country, rural areas, men, and senior citizens have trust in news imparted through these platforms.
On the other hand, the population below 25 years of age, highly educated, middle income group and those living in semi-urban areas do not trust the news showcased on the platforms.
