CLAT 2019

Hyderabad: Consortium of National Law Universities (NALSAR) said from next year onwards and starting with CLAT 2019 (Common Law Admission Test) the online mode of the entrance test has been scrapped and it will be held only in Offline and Pen and Paper based test.

The decision to scrap Online Mode of exam was taken at the fourth meeting of the Consortium of National Law Universities (NALSAR) that took place in Hyderabad on Thursday.

“The decision was taken in view of the technical glitches experienced in the past few years. From 2019, students will again have to appear in pen-paper mode,” NALSAR said in a statement.

Interestingly, the NALSAR decision comes at a time when the Union HRD Ministy, Govt of India is taking various steps to conduct different competitive exams in Online Mode. The ministry had recently constituted National Testing Agency (NTA) which will oversee the NET, NEET, JEE Main and other exams conducted for admission to different professional courses.

NALSAR on the other hand instead of addressing the issues like technical glitches decided to scrap the online test mode. It however emphasised the need to create a question bank and to improve the quality of the paper.

“To improve the quality of the question paper of CLAT, the consortium resolved to create a question bank to which experts from all the NLUs and other institutions would be asked to contribute,” it said.

At the meeting chaired by NALSAR Vice-Chancellor Prof Faizan Mustafa, the consortium agreed to set up a CLAT secretariat and a permanent website that would function throughout the year from its permanent office in Bengaluru.

CLAT is an all-India entrance examination, conducted on rotation by National Law Universities (NLUs) for admissions to five-year integrated Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Law (BA plus LLB) and one-year Master of Law (LLM) programme.

The CLAT 2019 will be conducted on May 12 by National Law University, Odisha. The entire schedule of the exam will be released soon. CLAT was held for the first time in 2008 and is conducted by India’s 19 National Law Universities by rotation.
