Jalgaon: Uneasy calm prevailed in Pachora, the town about 50 kms from the district headquarter Jalgaon and the situation there is said to be under control following the communal clashes that erupted in the evening on Wednesday.
According to local police some youths of Hindu and Muslim community passed comments on each other last evening while passing through the Jamner road near a Jain temple in the area. The minor incident took ugly shape next morning with heavy stone pelting being reported from some parts of the town Thursday.
"Six persons, including three policemen, were injured following the clashes. Three of the injured are serious", Pachora police station inspector R M Gadhe said.
The goups indulged in a scuffle in which three Muslim youths, residents of Mullawada-Pachora, were seriously injured, he said.
"On getting information about the clash, Pachora police personnel rushed to the site. Security was also deployed in the area during the night and the mob was pacified", he added.
However, tension flared up again this morning and a fresh clash occurred between members of both the communities.
A mosque in the Deshmuk area was also ransacked by some youths and there were incidents of stone-pelting by both the groups. They also set afire four motorbikes, two cars and a tempo, police said.
A local reporter while talking ummid.com on phone said that another mosque has also been pelted with stones. He also said that properties in the Mullawada area of the town has been looted and damaged by the rioters.
This is the first time mosques were attacked by rioters in this Khandesh town.
Stones were also pelted on the vehicle of local Shiv Sena MLA Kishore Patil.
It is learnt that additional police force led by Police Commissioner Praveen Salunke has been deployed in the riot affected town. Local residents alleged that after reaching the town the police had started indiscriminate of the Muslim youths.
Pachora is a municipal council place some 50 kms from Jalgaon in Khandesh region of Maharashtra.
