Faizabad/Lucknow: Advocate Mohammad Saleem, an associate of Advocate Jamal Ahmad, lawyer for Khalid Mujahid, was attacked earlier in the day within the Faizabad court premises allegedly by a gorup of lawyers.
Advotae Saleem has been rushed to a local hospital where his condition is said to be stable but serious.
The incodenct took place three days after the mysterious death of Khalid Mujahid in police custody.
Ghufran Siddiqui, a local activist while talking to ummid.com on phone said the attack took place Tuesday soon after the Faizabad bar association reportedly passed a resolution against the lawyers who took part in a peaceful protest against the killing of Khalid Mujahid.
The protest was held yesterday. People from both the communities and civil rights activists had taken out the peaceful protest march from Eidgah to commissioner's office where they submitted a memorandum addressed to the president of India.
Some Muslim lawyers including Adv. Saleem had also taken part in the protest march.
Soon after the Faizabad bar association's resolution, a group of lawyers allegedly ran amoke and destroyed the benches of three Muslim lawyers.
They attacked Adv. Saleem with iron rods – he was rushed to emergency ward of the Sadar hospital.
Khalid Mujahid who was arrested on charges of serial blasts in 2007 died on Saturday while he was returning from Faizabad to Lucknow jail on Saturday. Khalid fainted on way at Barabanki, according to police and was taken to District Hospital, Barabanki where he was declared brought dead by the doctors.
Advocate Jamal Ahmad was also attacked in 2007. A boycott call was also given against him in the same year.
Meanwhile, a spontaneous bandh was called in the city demanding action against the culprits.
