New Delhi: Congress legislator Mateen Ahmed will be the pro-tem speaker of the Delhi assembly, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said Tuesday.
"We proposed his (Ahmed's) name... he will be the pro-tem speaker," Kejriwal told reporters.
The names of Bharatiya Janata Party leader Jagdish Mukhi and Janata Dal-United legislator Shoaib Iqbal were also proposed but both of them declined, Kejriwal said.
The pro-tem speaker administers the oath to all newly-elected legislators and presides over the assembly until a new speaker is elected.
Kejriwal, who took over as chief minister Dec 28, has been asked to prove his government's majority in the assembly Jan 2.
